Hard Skin and Callus Removal at Home
Care for thickened skin on feet and heels
Hard skin (also called callus) commonly builds up on heels, balls of the feet and other areas that take repeated pressure. Sometimes it is simply noticeable; in other cases, thick or dry skin becomes uncomfortable or starts to split.
Local Foot Care provides gentle, professional routine foot care during home visits. Our qualified Foot Health Practitioners can assess hard skin and provide appropriate care for clients who would prefer treatment in their own home.
What can we do for hard skin?
We assess the location and condition of the thickened skin, discuss possible causes and, where appropriate, carefully reduce callus. We can also offer practical suggestions about skin care and footwear. Treatment depends on the condition of the skin and any relevant medical history.
Why does hard skin build up?
Pressure, friction, footwear and the way weight is distributed across the foot can all contribute. Heels may become dry and rough, while the ball of the foot can develop areas of callus with repeated walking or standing.

Frequently asked questions
Can you help with cracked heels?
We can assess dry, thickened skin and offer routine care where appropriate. Deep, painful, bleeding or infected cracks may require further clinical assessment.
Is callus the same as a corn?
Both involve thickened skin. Callus is generally more widespread; corns are typically smaller, more concentrated areas of pressure.
I was looking for a chiropodist for hard skin. Is this the right service?
If you need routine hard-skin reduction, our Foot Health Practitioners may be able to help. We do not use the protected titles chiropodist or podiatrist.
